External link tracking in Google Analytics

Please note: this applies to myTrip website customers only. If you are interested in a myTrip website, please contact [email protected]

We are now tracking external link clicks on operator websites in Google Analytics, so that you can see how many users are clicking through to external websites.

This allows you to track how much traffic is being sent to 3rd party websites from your website.

This will also track how many times PDF timetable links have been clicked.

To see this data in Google Analytics select ‘Behaviour’ in the navigation, then ‘Events’, and then ‘Outgoing Links’ (please see screenshot below).

  • The clicked URL is recorded as the Event Action.

  • The URL the user clicks the link on is recorded as the Event Label.

Please note: this only affects operator websites using Universal Analytics or GA3. Any operator who has already migrated to GA4 can enable this directly in Google Analytics.

We will be following up in the future with our plans to migrate any remaining Google Analytics accounts to GA4.
